Double Chin Removal in London, Ontario: Is It Fat, Loose Skin or Your Jawline?

Provider assessing fullness under the chin in profile before double chin removal in London, Ontario

Double chin removal works when the treatment matches the cause. Fullness under the chin usually comes from fat, loose skin or a softer jawline, and plenty of people have a mix. For fat, Belkyra double chin injections break it down without surgery in London, Ontario. Loose skin and chin shape need a different plan, which is why the assessment matters more than the treatment menu.

Interest in a sharper jaw and neck keeps climbing. In its 2025 procedural statistics report, the US-based American Society of Plastic Surgeons said neck lifts rose 21 percent from the year before.

Key takeaways

  • A double chin can come from fat, loose skin or a softer jawline, and the right treatment depends on which one is driving it.
  • Belkyra breaks down fat under the chin over a series of sessions, but it isn’t meant for very loose skin.
  • Loose skin responds to tightening, and larger amounts of fat or skin may call for a surgical consult.
  • Chin exercises can strengthen muscles, but they can’t get rid of chin fat.

What causes a double chin?

Usually one of three things, and often more than one at once. Fat is the most common. Cleveland Clinic notes that a double chin typically goes along with carrying extra weight, since many people gain weight evenly across the body, face and chin included. Genetics plays a part as well: some people inherit a softer jawline that shows a double chin even at a healthy weight. And loose skin under the chin can create the same look by itself.

Telling them apart is the first job of an assessment. A provider looks at your profile at rest and with your chin tipped down, then gently feels the area under the jaw. Soft, pinchable fullness points to fat. Skin that drapes or folds points to laxity. A chin that sits well behind the lips suggests structure is part of the story. Many people have some of each, and the plan should reflect that.

How does Belkyra get rid of double chin fat?

Belkyra is an injectable form of deoxycholic acid, sold as Kybella in the United States. Health Canada authorized it in 2015 to improve moderate to severe fullness from fat under the chin in adults. Its Canadian product monograph explains that it physically disrupts cell membranes in the tissue it’s injected into. Placed in the fat beneath the chin, it breaks down fat cells. That’s why precise placement matters.

The trial results are solid. According to the monograph, across two phase 3 trials with more than 1,000 adults, 68.2 percent of people treated with Belkyra improved by at least one grade on both clinician and patient ratings, measured 12 weeks after their last session. On placebo, 20.5 percent did. Bigger two-grade changes were less common (16 percent versus 1.5 percent), so expect gradual refinement more than a dramatic change.

It comes as a series. The monograph allows up to six sessions spaced at least a month apart. At Infinite Medical Spa, most patients need two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with visible change showing four to six weeks after each one.

Swelling is the side effect to plan around. In the trials, 87 percent of treated patients had swelling, 70 percent had pain and 66 percent had numbness. Swelling and numbness usually settle over several days to a couple of weeks, so it’s smart to book the first session well away from a big event. One less common risk is worth knowing too. In 4 percent of treated patients, the injections injured the nerve that moves the lower lip, which can make a smile look uneven. Those cases lasted a median of 44 days, and several months in some. That’s a big part of why anatomy training and careful technique matter.

What helps when the problem is loose skin?

Not fat-dissolving injections. Belkyra’s monograph says people with excessive skin laxity or prominent neck bands shouldn’t be treated with it, because removing fat in those cases may leave an unflattering result.

Tightening is the better match. Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound to stimulate new collagen below the surface, and Merz Aesthetics Canada says it is cleared by Health Canada for lifting the skin on the neck and under the chin. Results build over two to three months as that collagen forms. Our guide to Ultherapy for the neck and jowls in London, Ontario covers what it can and can’t lift.

When skin is very loose, surgical options are worth a look. Cleveland Clinic describes a chin tuck as tightening skin and removing extra fat around the chin and upper neck, and a neck lift as tightening muscles and removing extra skin across the neck and chin. A good non-surgical assessment should tell you when a surgical consult makes more sense.

Can chin filler make a double chin look smaller?

Sometimes the issue is structure. When the chin sits back, the area beneath it can look fuller from the side, and Cleveland Clinic lists a softer inherited jawline among the reasons a double chin shows up.

Dermal filler placed on the chin can add projection. In a 2024 trial published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, 140 adults with a mildly or moderately retruded chin were assigned to a hyaluronic acid chin filler or no treatment. At three months, 83.3 percent of the treated group had improved by at least one grade, compared with 10.8 percent of controls, and the treated group’s lead held through 12 months. Filler won’t remove fat, though. When fat is also part of the picture, the two can be planned together.

Non-surgical double chin removal or liposuction?

It comes down to how much fat there is and how firm the skin is. Cleveland Clinic describes injections like Kybella as breaking down small amounts of fat in areas with firm skin, while chin liposuction suctions fat out from under the chin and neck. If there’s a lot of fat, or fat plus loose skin, a surgical consult is worth having.

Recovery is the other big difference. Cleveland Clinic notes that people usually go home the same day after double chin surgery, that pain, bruising and swelling should improve within two weeks, and that incisions can take several months to heal. Belkyra skips the incisions in exchange for a series of appointments and swelling after treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Do double chin exercises work?

Not for fat. Cleveland Clinic notes that exercises like chin tucks can build up the muscles of the face, jaw and neck, but none of them can fully get rid of chin fat. When extra weight is behind it, losing weight is what changes it. A fitness specialist quoted by Cleveland Clinic says a healthy diet and an hour of exercise a day will show in the face.

How many Belkyra treatments will I need?

Most patients at Infinite Medical Spa need two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. The product monograph allows up to six sessions at least a month apart, and your provider maps out an estimate at your Belkyra consultation.

Who shouldn’t get Belkyra?

According to the product monograph, it isn’t for people with excessive skin laxity or prominent neck bands, or for anyone with an infection in the treatment area. It isn’t recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for people with a history of trouble swallowing.

Can you get rid of a double chin without surgery?

Yes, when the treatment matches the cause. Belkyra targets fat, Ultherapy tightens loose skin and filler can add chin projection. Large amounts of fat or significantly loose skin are better assessed for surgery.

How much does double chin removal cost?

It depends on the cause and the treatment. For Belkyra, cost depends on how many vials each session needs and how many sessions you need. Infinite Medical Spa quotes after an assessment, so book a consultation for a plan and price that fit your face.
